The OHL historically relied on outdated, low-quality camera systems, poorly equipped to capture the fast pace and close contact of ice hockey. Single-camera setups meant that coverage was limited and often unreliable, with blind spots and poor sight lines making it difficult to judge play—limiting the ability to officiate games, contest decisions, and deliver feedback with confidence and clarity.

From a sporting perspective, the lack of league-wide standardization and low quality of footage meant that guesswork was influencing outcomes. And from a safety perspective, it created the risk of dangerous plays going unnoticed and unchallenged.

The OHL partnered with Spiideo to deploy its cloud-based, multi-angle video and replay infrastructure across the league. Each venue is now equipped with seven AI-powered Spiideo cameras, capturing all 680 league games in high definition from multiple vantage points, and making replays instantly and effortlessly accessible through web, smartphone, and tablet.
