How one system powers player development, scouting, and officiating across the USHL

With all 16 USHL arenas now covered by a seven-angle set up, every team benefits from a single connected system for performance, officiating, and league operations.

The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the premier junior league in American hockey, developing more NCAA Division I athletes than any other competition in the country and serving as a proven runway to the National Hockey League (NHL).

Maintaining that title takes more than talent alone. It requires frequent, objective feedback; consistently high refereeing standards; and the tools to keep pace with a demanding schedule, with teams taking to the ice two to three times every week.

With all 16 USHL arenas now covered by a seven-angle set up, every team benefits from a single connected system for performance, officiating, and league operations – helping coaches, scouts, officials, and players across the entire league perform at their best.

Learning from every play

In the past, using video meant manually filming, uploading, clipping, and sharing footage. With teams playing back-to-back games most weekends, time spent preparing footage meant valuable feedback opportunities were often missed.

With Spiideo, games are recorded and uploaded automatically, making multi-angle footage available to review within seconds of the action taking place. USHL coaches use Spiideo Perform’s BenchMode, providing low-latency live video to the bench. Tagging key moments on the bench throughout each game, coaches can deliver visual feedback to players and adjust tactics during shifts, rather than waiting for the period to end.

“[With Spiideo], we’re able to change our system live. Being able to make those adjustments in game has been huge for us.”

With every game available to watch back in Spiideo’s performance analysis platform, coaches are spending less time preparing footage and more time putting it to work: reviewing performances, delivering feedback, and scouting opposition.

Keeping players safe and gameplay fair

With seven Spiideo cameras across each rink, providing a 180-degree panoramic view and dedicated blue line, end zone, and goal line angles, there are no blind spots out on the ice.

Using Spiideo Replay, officials can pan, zoom, scrub, slow down footage, and switch between angles to assess incidents, identify dangerous play, and review their own performances post-game.

However, leagues must balance reaching the right decision with keeping the game moving and fans engaged. The USHL can tag key moments as they happen, making important clips immediately available for review. This enables faster, more informed decision-making, reducing average review times from over 40 seconds to just four – and bringing the USHL’s video review policy in line with the NCAA and NHL.

There are no blind spots on the rink. Seven different angles. That’s a complete game changer.

A level playing field

In the Spiideo platform, coaches, analysts, and league staff have access to a shared repository of every game played across the league. Using this, coaching staff can scout upcoming opponents and prepare more effectively, without needing to be physically present at every game.

These aren’t benefits reserved for the league’s biggest or most successful teams. Every team benefits from the same analysis platform and officiating standards.

Spiideo allows coaches to dial in on the details and officials to ensure the right calls are made. It creates precisely the kind of environment where talent is continually challenged to improve, helping the United States’ next generation of hockey stars to fulfill their potential.

What you experience in Fargo is what you’re going to experience in Youngstown. That symmetry gives us a consistent experience from building to building.
