RED Sport Network: Pioneering AI-Driven Sports Broadcasting

The media group has scaled from covering tier-two Swiss football, to supporting more than 50 leagues at a meteoric pace. Three short episodes below cover the commercial opportunity, technical setup, and sporting impact generated in partnership with Spiideo.

Every sport at every level produces unforgettable moments – but without cameras to capture them, they rarely get the fanfare they deserve.

Until now, broadcasting has been a privilege reserved only for elite leagues and competitions with large fanbases and production budgets. But RED Sport is championing the competitions that once went unseen.

Launched in 2022 with coverage of the Swiss 1. Liga – the fourth tier of Swiss men’s football – RED+, its sports streaming platform, now broadcasts over 40 leagues across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.

Assisted by Spiideo’s line-up of automated broadcasting tools, RED Sport has developed a commercially viable way to stream lower-tier sports, enabling lifelong fans to enjoy every moment and attracting new audiences through social media.

Scaling up operations, scaling back costs

Broadcasting a live event once required a full crew and truckload of equipment. However, RED Sport does it entirely remotely without camera operators or production staff on-site.

The process begins by installing an AI-powered Spiideo camera, carefully matched to the venue’s layout, size, and the sports played. Connected to the cloud, RED Sport can manage its entire camera fleet directly from a central production HQ.

Events are then scheduled within Spiideo Play, Spiideo’s professional-grade sports production platform. On game day, the cameras roll automatically, with AutoFollow – Spiideo’s industry-leading tracking technology, trained to understand the ins and outs of each sport – taking on the camera operator role.

But a streamlined production team doesn’t compromise quality. Using Spiideo’s Storyboard tool, production teams can assign pre-created run sheets by sport, league, or event, which enrich broadcasts automatically with time- and event-triggered production elements. Think team line-ups that show ahead of kick-off and transitions that mark a replay. The result is broadcasts that look consistent, polished, and professional, raising the level of lower-tier sports coverage.

We don’t need production teams on site. Instead, we produce remotely in the cloud, generating hours of live sports content to stream on the RED+ platform.

A winning formula for fans, teams, and sponsors

They may not sell out stadiums or draw in millions of viewers, but lower-tier teams have loyal fanbases that want to watch every game, whether it’s a midweek clash or a distant away day.

RED+ makes that possible for subscription fee – solving a major problem for lower-league supporters and, in turn, facilitating a “deep connection” with the local community, both for RED Sport and its sponsors.

This connection makes fans more willing to share feedback, providing brands with invaluable insight to refine their marketing approaches and maximize the value of the partnership.
“It’s a win-win situation – fostering community spirit while providing brands with meaningful and effective marketing opportunities.” – Kim Yew, Former Head of Operations at RED Sport.Network

Enabling elite broadcasting at an unrivaled scale and value, the Spiideo partnership benefits everyone: fans, sponsors, teams, and players.

Utilizing the same AI cameras used to capture matches, clubs, and leagues can also access Spiideo Perform, a cloud-based video analysis platform trusted by teams at the very top.

Every game and training session can be automatically captured, instantly clipped, and effortlessly transformed into comprehensive data breakdowns, allowing staff to analyze team, player, and opposition performances and share game-changing feedback – post-game, during breaks, and from the sidelines – without the time-cost of manually capturing and preparing footage.

Spiideo gives you much more time after the game to analyze because you’ve already prepared your analysis.

Putting local sports in the spotlight

The ambition for RED Sport isn’t to stream games to a handful of established fans. It’s doing its utmost to enhance the “viability, visibility, and vitality” of the competitions it covers, ensuring their long-term growth and development.

At the heart of this strategy? Social media. With all past events stored within Spiideo Play and accessible through the cloud, crowd-pleasing moments are clipped, enhanced, and uploaded to platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to engage younger fans.

Despite their stature, these competitions produce plenty of moments worth watching, with some clips generating millions of views.

For RED+, it’s an opportunity to engage new subscribers and new sponsors. While a few thousand live viewers might not attract global names, the potential to “go viral” does, with leading brands such as Mastercard having partnered with the platform.

“RED+ captures the emotions and priceless moments with the potential to go viral. That’s what we as a brand want to associate with.” -

Reto Wolf Head of Marketing, Mastercard

While the traditional broadcasting world has long overlooked the potential of lower leagues, with Spiideo’s support, RED+ is proving that competitions don’t need multi-million dollar budgets to draw in a crowd.
